Window Screens Available

A neighbor writes:

My husband and I have some storm window screens from what looks like went to the original windows in our house.  We had all of the old windows replaced in 2009 and we no longer need the storm screens.
I'm not sure if some of our friends in this neighborhood still have the original windows and could use these screens.  We also have some storm glass as well.
Would you be able to send out an email asking our friends if they would need any of these?  If so, they can reach me at ...
I have attached some photos of the screen and windows.

If you are on the email distribution for the neighborhood newsletter, then you have (or will soon) receive an email with our neighbor's contact information included. A few pictures are included in this post.

Tennis Team Update

We are still looking for more people to join the Ashton Wood mixed doubles team! We are trying to get ALTA to approve our courts so we won’t be able to play in the league this summer. However, we are going to try to get together and practice/play and get ready for the next mixed doubles season. This is a great way to get outside, exercise, and have some fun social time with your neighbors....and maybe win some tennis matches!! As we said last month, we plan to start the team at the lowest classification and are looking for players at ANY SKILL LEVEL - from beginners to those that have played tennis for years. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Pilar Meek at pilar@mindspring.com with “Ashton Wood Tennis” in the subject line.

Neighborhood Yard Sale

The Spring Neighborhood Yard Sale will be held May 6th. If we have at least 7 families that want to participate, a Large Banner will be erected at the entrance that will attract much more traffic than a single-family sign. So, dig out those boxes of junk, oops I mean those cherished items and see what you can get for them. if you want to participate, use the form on the Contact page of the our web site and select the Yard Sale category.

Connect with your Neighbors on Facebook

There is now a Facebook page for the Ashton Wood community. While it is not formally associated with the HOA, and the HOA does not control its content, it is an available place to share news, discussion, and recommendations with your neighbors. It is open for everyone to see. So, check out the Facebook page using the link above and request to join. This is a great way to inform residents of lost pets, things for sale, services wanted or recommended or just to see what has been happening in the neighborhood.

Strawberry Season is here!

John and Donna Washington, owners of Washington Farms left their careers and began farming in 1993.. With the purchase their land on Hog Mountain Road, they could plant strawberries, blueberries and blackberries for families to pick! They were also able to expand their Fall Farm Actives to include a corn maze, a jumping pillow, a cow train, and lots more! One of their greatest joys on the farm includes watching families and friends laughing and smiling, enjoying spending their time together having fun on the farm and making lasting memories! Call ahead for availability. Athens/Watkinsville, GA (706) 769-0627 Loganville, GA (770) 554-8119 http://www.washingtonfarms.net/

Special Recognition

We had a fantastic turnout for our neighborhood workday on March 11. Eleven residents came out to help. To quote the old saying, “many hands make light work.” We want to offer a sincere “thank you” to all those listed below who demonstrated their pride in our wonderful neighborhood and came out to help: David Harris, Randy Harrison, Wayne Williams, David Eidson, Louis Phillips, John Deveny, Robert and Reba Burch, Bell and Connie Bell, and Guy Meador. New plants, weed block fabric and pine straw was installed as well as general cleaning up of litter and fallen tree debris.

Neighborhood Notes

As this area continues to grow and become more populated please be aware of the rights, property and safety of others. Parents lets your kids know how other homeowners might feel when people they don’t know are cutting through their yard. If people are coming through your yard that you don’t recognize and you don’t feel safe you can always call 911. That is what the concept of neighborhood watch is all about, watching out for the safety and wellbeing of our friends and neighbors.

Tennis Anyone?

Several residents have expressed interest in starting an ALTA tennis team for Ashton Wood. It would be a mixed doubles (men and women) team that would play on Saturday mornings during the summer. This is a great way to get outside, exercise, and have some fun social time with your neighbors....and maybe win some tennis matches!! We plan to start the team at the lowest classification and are looking for players at ANY SKILL LEVEL - from beginners to those that have played tennis for years. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Pilar Meek at pilar@mindspring.com with “Ashton Wood Tennis” in the subject line. We need to act fast to get a team registered for the summer season, so please respond ASAP if you are interested.

Spring Fever Field Trips

If spring fever has gotten hold of you here are a few ideas.

(1) This is an Atlanta Classic, but if you haven’t climbed up Stone Mountain in a while it is worth a revisit. If you have never been there, it is a must see. If you are able, the walk up from the west side is great, a little strenuous and a little steep in a couple of spots but take your time and go slow. There are lots of activities for kids or grandkids and good picnic spots to make a day of it as well. Visit http://www.stonemountainpark.com/ for more info.

(2) If you want to do some flea market type shopping run up to the Pendergrass Flea Market. It is 20 minutes up I-85 at the Jefferson Exit. If you haven’t been, it is huge and I mean really huge. It is so big you should plan on walking a lot and then grabbing some great authentic ethnic food at the food court. http://www.pendflea.com/pfm/
